The Power of Affirmations — Do They Really Work?

April 28, 20264 min read
I was skeptical too. Until I practiced affirmations for 30 days and watched my life shift in ways I never imagined. Here is exactly what I did and how you can too.

I'll be honest with you — when I first heard about affirmations, I thought it was nonsense. Standing in front of a mirror saying "I am wealthy and abundant" when my bank account told a very different story felt ridiculous. Embarrassing, even.

But I was desperate enough to try.

So I committed to 30 days. Every morning, before I picked up my phone, before I made chai, before the world could get to me — I stood in front of the mirror and spoke to myself with the kindness I had never received.

By day 30, my life had not transformed overnight. But something inside me had shifted in a way I could not ignore.

The Science Behind Why Affirmations Work

Your brain has something called neuroplasticity — the ability to rewire itself based on repeated thoughts and experiences. When you repeat a negative belief like "I am not good enough," your brain builds stronger neural pathways around that belief, making it feel more and more true.

Affirmations work by deliberately creating new pathways. The more you repeat a positive, present-tense statement, the more your subconscious begins to accept it as reality — and then starts looking for evidence to confirm it.

This is not magic. It is neuroscience.

Why Most People Fail at Affirmations

The biggest mistake is saying affirmations you don't believe at all. If you say "I am a millionaire" and every cell in your body screams "liar," your brain will reject it.

Instead, start with what I call bridge affirmations — statements that are a stretch but not a lie.

Instead of: "I am wealthy."
Try: "I am open to receiving more abundance into my life."

Instead of: "I love myself completely."
Try: "I am learning to treat myself with more kindness every day."

My 30-Day Practice — Exactly What I Did

Morning (2 minutes): Spoke 5 affirmations out loud in front of the mirror with eye contact. Yes, it felt awkward. I did it anyway.

Afternoon (1 minute): Read my affirmations silently — especially when stress hit.

Night (2 minutes): Wrote one affirmation 10 times in my journal before sleeping.

That is it. Five minutes a day. Thirty days. The shift was real.

Start Here — 5 Affirmations for You

✦ I am worthy of love, success, and joy — exactly as I am today.
✦ Money flows to me easily and I manage it with wisdom.
✦ I release what no longer serves me with grace and gratitude.
✦ My voice matters and I am safe to speak my truth.
✦ I am becoming more of who I truly am, every single day.

Try it for 30 days. Then come back and tell me what shifted.
